DESCRIPTION
The TopServer-30
gives service providers a highly scalable means of installing
and adding dial-up ports. Each shelf can support 30 ports
and unlimited number of shelves can be stacked and connected
using a single network bus. All the connected dial-up servers
are centrally managed by a host PC. The system provides
the two most important features sought by service providers:
log-in security authentication, restrictions and accounting.
Both operations are processed from the host PC using encrypted
negotiations. The system incorporates several facilities to
insure efficient and trouble-free operation. Each modem is
equipped with a watchdog circuit that automatically resets
the modem when it sense a hang-up. Each port has an off-hooking
circuit to force the line into a busy state so that the central
office rotary (ACD) can bypass the defective port and prevent
it from blocking downstream lines. The system will also carry
out a loopback test of all the ports at a given interval to
check if the modem and lines are okay. Two power supplies
can be installed for redundancy. The host PC management program
will also check all the connected servers at a given interval.
For further fault-tolerance, the system can utilize two simultaneous
host PCs. The extensive monitoring and reporting provide the
operator a tool for evaluating port performance and increasing
overall efficiency. With a low per-port cost, the TopServer-30
offers a highly scalable and expandable platform. Together
with its reliability, it is an ideal choice for a dial-up
